SAN ANTONIO – No. 4 Hawai'i Pacific University made day two in Texas a profitable one as HPU defeated No. 21 St. Mary's (Texas) 5-2 at the Northside Tennis Center.
The No. 4 Sharks (6-2) took all but the bottom two singles positions from the Rattlers (7-3).
HPU's
Elodie Busson remained unbeaten in singles play as she outlasted No. 38 Ally Maciel 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 to win No. 1 singles. She also teamed with
Elisa Elhadj to beat Maciel and Alex Corder 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.
HPU swept the three doubles sets to win the point, with
Mihoki Miyahara and Nichole Ballach winning at No. 2 against Rani Goodland and Bella Bergman 7-6 by taking the tiebreaker 8-6.
Debora Echeverria and
Sarah Ikioka won at No. 3 against Ashley Penshorn and Hannah Petersen 6-3.
Miyahara won at No. 2 singles against Corder 6-3, 7-6 (8-6), while the Sharks needed three sets at No. 3 and No. 4. Echeverria downed Goodland 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 3, and Ikioka beat Petersen 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 at No. 4.
The Rattlers claimed the bottom positions with Penshorn needing three sets to beat Ballach 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 at No. 5, and Alice Thane beating
Monica Greene 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 6.
The No. 4 Sharks continue their Alamo city excursion on Wednesday as they face No. 10 Indianapolis (Ind.) at the Northside Tennis Center. Match time is set for 4:30 a.m. HST (9:30 a.m. CDT).
