SAN ANTONIO – No. 4 Hawai'i Pacific University suffered another loss in the Alamo city as 10th ranked Indianapolis won 4-1 on Wednesday at the Northside Tennis Center.
The No. 4 Sharks (6-3) only claimed the one point as the No. 10 Greyhounds (10-0) rolled to their 10th straight victory in the match played to clinch because of threatening weather.
HPU's
Sarah Ikioka defeated UIndy's Chloe Weihs 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5 to score the Sharks lone point.
The Sharks No. 1 singles player,
Elodie Busson, suffered her first loss of the season as Hanna Volikova beat her 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) to end her winning streak.
UIndy won at No. 4 singles with Maja Pindelska defeating
Debora Echeverria 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, and at No. 6 where Anna Valiaeva beat
Nicole Ballach 6-3, 6-0.
In the unfinished positions, HPU's
Elisa Elhadj held a lead on UIndy's Nikol Alexeeva 1-6, 6-3, 5-2, while Shark
Mihoki Miyahara and Hound Anya Novikova split sets 6-4, 3-6, 1-2 when the match was called.
UIndy also claimed the doubles point, winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Volikova/Pindelska beat Miyahara/
Heloise Le Normand 6-1 at No. 2, and Weihs/Valiaeva downed Echeverria/Ikioka 6-4. The No. 1 postion between HPU's Busson and Elhadj against Alexeeva and Novikova was tied 5-5 when the doubles point was won.
The No. 4 Sharks return to the courts on Thursday in the Texas Hill Country as they face No. 8 West Florida at the Northside Tennis Center. Match time is set for 4:30 a.m. HST (9:30 a.m. CDT).
