SAN ANTONIO – No. 4 Hawai'i Pacific University collected another win over a top 10 program with its 4-2 victory over No. 8 West Florida at the Annemarie Tennis Center.
The No. 4 Sharks (7-3) never trailed in the match against the eighth ranked Argonauts (4-5).
The Sharks won the doubles point and claimed wins in three of the singles matches.
Elisa Elhadj led the Sharks with an upset in singles over 29th ranked Karolina Silwanowicz 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2, while
Mihoki Miyahara defated Gabriela Araujo 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 at No. 3 and
Debora Echeverria ripped Valeria Mantilla 6-1, 6-1.
The Argos won at No. 1 as top-ranked Berta Bonardi won a three-setter against
Elodie Busson 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, and Dianna Vlad outlasted
Sarah Ikioka 7-6 (11-9), 1-6, 6-2 at No. 5.
The No. 6 singles went unfinished with UWF's Heather Mixon leading
Heloise Le Normand 4-6, 6-4, 5-2.
To take the doubles point, HPU's Echeverria/Ikioka beat Mixon/Mantilla 6-3 at No. 3, then Miyahara/Ballach won in a tiebreaker at No. 2 over Araujo/Silwanowicz 7-6 (7-5). UWF took the No. 1 doubles as Bonardi/Vlad won in a tiebreaker over Busson/Elhadj 7-6 (7-4).
HPU returns home and is back in action on Tuesday, March 26 when the Sharks host California Lutheran at Ala Moana Park.
