LA MIRADA, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University handed the No. 1 team in the country another loss as HPU and top-ranked Concordia Irvine split a second doubleheader, with CUI winning 4-0 in the first game and HPU winning 4-3 in the second.
The Sharks (20-16, 13-7) closed their week-long, 12-game road trip to southern California with the victory over the No. 1 Eagles (18-3, 8-2). HPU snapped the CUI's 16-game win streak on Thursday.
Sophomore centerfielder
Cieana Curran of Ewa Beach, Hawai'i/Campbell went 2-for-2 in the second game with three of the four runs scored and an RBI. Freshman
Noel Saunders of Pearl City, Hawai'i/Pearl City went 2-for-4 in game two, and junior
Sierra Dias of Mililani, Hawai'i/Bishop Gorman picked up three RBI in going just 1-for-4.
Senior Jordan Curry (12-6) of Farmington, N.M./Farmington recorded her 14th complete game in pitching all seven innings of the second game allowing three earned runs on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout. Curry is now tied for fifth in total wins nationally.
Junior righthander
Emilee Leonard (6-5) of La Mirada, Calif./Saint Paul notched her seventh complete game of the season in the first game, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with five walks and strikeout in six innings.
In game one, CUI's sophomore pitcher Callie Nunes (12-1) struck out four in a two-hit shutout with four walks. Nunes is tied with Curry for fifth in the nation in wins and is 12th nationally in strikeouts.
The Sharks collected their two hits from Curry and junior

Concordia scored twice in the fourth inning on a leadoff double, a sacrifice bunt, and an RBI double. They topped that with a solo homer by Sydney Sprinkle for a 2-0 Eagles lead.
CUI added two more runs came in the sixth on the third double of the day, a sacrifice fly, and an RBI single.
CUI scratched the board first, picking up a run in the first frame on two singles, a ground out advancing the runners, and a bunt to score the runner.
HPU tied the game in the third when sophomore centerfielder
Cieana Curran picked up her third homer of the season with a bye ball over the center field fence.
Concordia answered in the bottom of the third with a two-run homer by McKenzie Graham giving the Eagles a 3-1 advantage.
The Sharks knotted the game in the fifth inning starting with a base hit to left field from sophomore
Ashley Iseri of Cerritos, Calif./Whitney. Curran was walked, and senior shortstop
Tiana Cantero-Kawelo of Wahiawa, Hawai'i/Leilehua dropped a sacrifice bunt mvoing Iseri and Curran to second and third. Dias brought them both home with a line shot down right field line tying the game at 3-all.
The Sharks scored the winning run in the final frame as Curran singled again, and Cantero-Kawelo followed her to place runners on first and third. Dias took the fielder's choice ground out to score Curran and eventually win the game 4-3.
Concordia Irvine's Emily Morris pitched five innings allowing three earned runs on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts over the Sharks. However it was Nunes (12-2) who picked up the loss, pitching the final two innings in relief, allowing the final run to score on four hits. Nunes' loss snapped her 11 game winning streak in the circle.
The Sharks come back home for a four-game series against Dominican (Calif.) before heading back out on the road. Their Sharks and Penguins are slated for doubleheaders at 1 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday at Howard A. Okita Field.
