HONOLULU – No. 5 Hawai'i Pacific University fell 4-0 to Division I San Jose State on Saturday at the University of Hawai'i Tennis Complex.
The No. 5 Sharks (8-5) picked up a set, but not the point in doubles to the Spartans (7-4), and had the top singles positions on the court when the match was decided.
The Sharks only win was at No. 1 doubles, as HPU's duo of
Elodie Busson and
Elisa Elhadj, ranked 36th in Division II doubles, defeated Savannah Sendar and Laura Malsert 6-4. But the doubles point went to San Jose State as Miyo Kobayashi and Alba Pedrero Galindo beat
Mihoki Miyahara and
Nicole Ballach 6-4 at No. 2, and Tamara Culibrk and Klara Milojkovic downed
Debora Echeverria and
Sarah Ikioka 6-4.
The Spartans took singles points No. 4 through No. 6 to win the match. Sendar won at No. 4 over Echeverria 7-5, 6-1, as Malsert beat Ikioka 6-1, 6-4, and Milokovic bettered Ballach 6-2, 6-1.
The Sharks were tied or ahead in the top three positions when the match was pulled. At No. 1, 15th ranked Busson had split with Culibrk 3-6, 7-5, 1-1, with 56th ranked Elhadj leading Kobayashi 7-5, 5-4, and Miyahara split with Pedero Galindo 3-6, 6-0, 2-2.
The Sharks are off until next Saturday when they host Hawai'i Hilo. The match at Ala Moana Park starts at 11 a.m.
