HPU's Janssen Named All-PacWest

IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University forward Jonathan Janssen was the Sharks lone selection on the 2019 All-PacWest Conference Men's Basketball Team announced on Wednesday by the conference office.
 
Janssen, a 6-9 junior from Noosa Heads, Australia/Mountain State who arrived from Cleveland State three seasons ago, was selected to the All-PacWest Third Team for the second time in his career.
 
Janssen led the Sharks in scoring and rebounding averaging 12.1 points (20th in the PacWest) and 5.9 rebounds per game (12th in the PacWest), with 1.73 assists per game. He was seventh after the regular season in blocked shots with 0.81 per game (21 total). He scored a season high 23 points in a win against Academy of Art in February, one of six games of 20 or more points this season. Janssen also collected two double-doubles and recorded three shots in a game three times this season.
 
Janssen also shot 43.9 percent (116-of-264) from the field in 2018-19, 33.3 percent (29-of-87) from the 3-point arc and 80.3 percent (53-of-66) from the foul line. He averaged 13.6 points per game and ranked seventh in the PacWest with 7.0 rebounds a contest. He ranked ninth in the PacWest in blocked shots per game with 29, an average of 1.0 per contest. He scored a career-high 25 points against Holy Names, with 11 rebounds twice and five double-doubles on the season. He collected three blocked shots against Chaminade and at Fresno Pacific.
 
Daulton Hommes of PacWest Conference Champion Point Loma was named the Player and Newcomer of the Year, while Azusa Pacific's Selom Mawugbe earned Defender of the Year and Concordia Irvine's Kayle Knuckles was tabbed Freshman of the Year. Point Loma's Ryan Looney was honored as the PacWest Coach of the Year.
 
Hommes and Mawugbe were selected to the All-PacWest Conference First Team, joined by Academy of Art's Andrija Blatancic, Concordia Irvine's Brian Chambers and Chaminade's Grant Dressler and Tyler Cartaino.
 
The Sharks finished the season at 7-20 overall, 4-18 in PacWest Conference play.
