SAN DIEGO – No. 16 Hawai'i Pacific University remained undefeated on the season with a 6-1 victory over Point Loma on Wednesday at the PLNU Tennis Courts.
The 16th ranked Sharks (4-0) lost only one set to the Sea Lions (1-3).
HPU took the doubles point by winning the second and third flights, with the top flight ending unfinished.
The HPU No. 2 doubles pair of
Lukas Bauer and
Cheng-Chieh Wang beat PLNU's Tim Soderman and Scott Wheeler 6-3, and the Sharks
Ondrej Ctverak and
Benjamin Loccisano won at No. 3 over Mark Penner and Mark Vasat 6-4. The No. 1 pairs stopped with PLNU's Thomas Dafcik and Yuki Okamoto leading Valentin Masse and
Maxime Gayte 5-4.
Point Loma won their only point at No. 1, where No. 26 Dafcik defeated No. 31 Masse 7-5, 6-2.
The Sharks won the rest, with Ctverak downed Okamoto 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2, Loccisano downed Soderman 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3, and Gayte beat Wheeler 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 at No. 4. Bauer ripped Vasat 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5, and
Lucas Poock won at No. 6 over Jasdeep Paintal 6-3, 6-3.
HPU visits UC San Diego on Thursday at the UCSD Northview Courts. The match is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. HST (Noon, PST).
