SAN DIEGO – No. 16 Hawai'i Pacific University continued its winning ways with a 4-0 win over UC San Diego at Northview Tennis Courts on Thursday in a match shortened due to weather concerns.
The 16th ranked Sharks (5-0) defeated the Tritons (4-7) for the second time this season.
HPU claimed the doubles point by winning the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, as
Lukas Bauer and
Cheng-Chieh Wang defeated Sahm Irvine and Neil Tengbumroong 6-2, with
Ondrej Ctverak and
Benjamin Loccisano beat Zach Ermert and Richard Han 6-2. The No. 1 spot featuring HPU
Maxime Gayte and Valentin Masse against Marc Isaia and Sreeganesh Manoharan went unfinished with UCSD up 5-4.
HPU won three singles points and the match was ended.
Loccisano downed Ermert 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 to start things off, followed by No. 3 Masse taking the No. 1 position over Irvine 6-3, 6-1. When Bauer beat Han 6-4, 6-3, HPU won the match and play was called.
In the unfinished positions, the closest at No. 2 where Isaia led Ctverak 6-3, 5-3. The other two were in the process of a split with Wang and Tengbumroong at 3-6, 6-5 at No. 3, and Gayte and Manoharan at 3-6, 6-1 at No. 4.
The Sharks have a day off on Friday before facing No. 4 West Florida on Saturday at La Jolla. Weather permitting, first serve is a 10 a.m. HST (Noon, PST).
