No. 16 Sharks Rip No. 4 West Florida 5-2

LA JOLLA, Calif. – No. 16 Hawai'i Pacific University made it six straight to open the season by taking down No. 4 West Florida 5-2 at the UC San Diego Northview Courts on Saturday.
 
The 16th ranked Sharks (6-0) handed the fourth ranked Argonauts (6-1) their first loss of the season.
 
The Sharks won the match before the Argos collected a point.
 
HPU won the doubles point taking the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, with the No. 3 spot left unfinished.
 
HPU's Valentin Masse and Maxime Gayte upset UWF's ninth ranked duo of Sed Bojadjiev and Lucas Sanchez 7-5 at the top spot. Then Lukas Bauer and Cheng-Chieh Wang took down Vitinho Galvao and Igor Cantanhede 6-3 at No. 2. Benjamin Loccisano and Ondrej Ctverak were knotted at 6-6 with Juan Cabrera and Gerardo Irarrazabal when the set was halted.
 
The Sharks then collected four of the six singles points, winning three of them and the match before the Argos got on the scoreboard.
 
The Sharks big win came at the top of the sheet, as No. 31 Masse upset No. 8 Bojadjiev 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (4-7), 6-1 for the No. 1 point. Wang beat former Shark Irarrazabal in three sets 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3, Loccisano beat Sanchez 6-0, 6-3 at No.4, and Bauer outlasted Pedro Cordeiro 7-6 (7-1), 1-6, 6-2.
 
The Argos won at No. 2 as Cabrera took a three-setter against Ctverak 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, and 34th ranked Juan Motta won the fifth flight over Gayete 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
 
The Sharks continue their mainland road trip by traveling to San Antonio for a showdown on Tuesday against top ranked Barry. The match is scheduled for 4:30 a.m. HST (9:30 a.m. CDT) in the Alamo city.
