No. 6 HPU Downs No. 3 Flagler 4-1

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – No. 6 Hawai'i Pacific University opened a weekend trip to Florida on the right foot by beating No. 3 Flagler (Fla.) 4-1 on neutral grounds at Sanlando Park, home of the 2019 NCAA Division II Championships.

The sixth ranked Sharks (11-3) bounced back from a loss on Saturday to snap the third ranked Saints (13-6) four-match winning streak.

The Sharks claimed the doubles point, nearly sweeping all three positions, then claimed wins with their three ranked singles players.

In doubles, the Sharks seventh ranked duo of Valentin Masse and Maxime Gayte claimed the No. 1 position, beating Lukas Storck and Felipe Carvalho 7-5, while Lukas Bauer and Cheng-Chieh Wang downed Rasmus Jonsson and Konstantin Dustmann 6-4 at No. 2. Ondrej Ctverak and Benjamin Loccisano were leading Luc Bolla and Daniel Arrien 5-4 at No. 3 when the point was won.

The Saints tied the match with their only point at No. 4 singles with Bolla beating Wang 6-1, 6-0.

But that didn't hold long as the Sharks Loccisano, ranked 69th in singles, won at No. 3 over Carvalho 6-4, 6-2 and 38th ranked Gayte won at No. 5 against Arrien 6-3, 6-2.

HPU clinched the match when 23rd ranked Masse defeated 56th ranked Storck 7-6, 6-3 at No. 1.

Ctverak was even with Flagler's Jonsson 1-6, 6-3, 2-2 at No. 2 when the match was halted, while Bauer was in the process of splitting sets at No. 6 with Konstantin Dustmann 4-6, 5-4.

The Sharks continue their nationally ranked Florida trip on Friday when they face No. 9 Saint Leo (Fla.) at Sanlando Park. First serve is scheduled for 7 a.m. HST (1 p.m. EDT).
