Player of the Year Busson Paces Sharks on All-PacWest Women's Team

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Hawai'i Pacific University junior Elodie Busson was named Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year as the 2019 All-PacWest Conference Women's Tennis Team was announced on Wednesday evening at the PacWest Tournament Banquet.
 
The No. 11 Sharks, with a 10-5 record and leading the NCAA Division II West Region with a 6-0 mark, are the number two seed in the tournament and placed a total of three players on the All-PacWest Conference Team.
 
Busson was named First Team All-PacWest Singles and teamed with Elisa Elhadj to earn First Team All-PacWest Doubles. Elhadj was tabbed Second Team All-PacWest Singles, as was Mihoki Miyahara.
 
Busson, a 5-6 junior from Poille Sur Vegre, France/Academy of Nantes, is ranked 26th this week in the Oracle/ITA Division II Rankings in singles with a 9-3 record playing No. 1 for HPU.
 
Elhadj, a 5-6 junior from Basel, Switzerland/CNED France, has a 6-1 record at No. 2 singles for the Sharks.
 
Miyahara, a 5-6 junior from Tosu City, Japan/Aomori Yamada, has amassed an 11-2 record for the Sharks at No. 3 singles.
 
The duo of Busson and Elhadj are ranked 40th this week in the Oracle/ITA rankings in doubles. They have a 9-4 record playing as the Sharks No. 1 doubles pair.
 
Joining Busson as PacWest Special Award winners are Fresno Pacific's Alice Di Matteo as Freshman of the Year and retiring Cal State LA coach Sandy Kriezel as Coach of the Year.
 
The No. 11 Sharks begin their play in the PacWest Conference Tournament on Thursday at 10 a.m. HST (1 p.m. MST) in the quarterfinals against seventh seeded Cal State LA, who defeated 10th seeded Holy Names 4-0 Wednesday to advance at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex.
