Sharks Swept on Day Two of D2 West Region Showcase

LOS ANGELES – Hawai'i Pacific University was swept in both matches Saturday at the D2 West Region Showcase at Cal State Los Angeles' University Gym.
 
The Sharks (4-4) lost in three to Central Washington (5-3) 19-25, 13-25, 13-25 to open the day, the were swept by host Cal State LA (4-4) 14-25, 18-25, 21-25.
 
Against the Wildcats, the Sharks hit just .039 for the three sets with 5.0 team blocks, while CWU hit .214 with 12.0 team blocks.
 
Junior Cameryn Collie of El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge paced the Sharks with eigth kills and a block, and senior Perla Escobar of Calexico, Calif./Calexico added seven kills with nine digs.
 
Junior Sierra Piester of Carlsbad, Calif., recorded three of the five team blocks.
 
The Wildcats were led by the double-double of Makala Swart of 11 kills and 11 digs with two blocks. Julia Mellander chalked up eight blocks as Diana Fa'amausili added five blocks.
 
The hitting woes continued for HPU against Cal State LA, as the Sharks hit .063 for the match with 3.0 team blocks. The Golden Eagles hit .250 with 10.0 team blocks in the sweep.
 
HPU led just once in the match, at the start of the second set.
 
Collie led the Sharks with nine blocks, eight digs and a block, while sophomore Nicole Ferris of Woodstock, Ga./Etowah added six kills with a block. Escobar tallied five kills, six digs and a block.
 
CSULA was paced by Karla Santos with 12 kills and a .375 attack percentage. She also posted four service aces. Alejandra Negron put up eight kills, three aces and four blocks. The Eagles were led by Daisy Crenshaw with six blocks.
 
The Sharks return to Honolulu to begin PacWest Conference play on Thursday when they visit Chaminade for a 7 p.m. match at McCabe Gymnasium.
