Sharks Chomp Silverswords 4-0

WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University dominaated the second half of a non-conference contest against cross-town rival Chaminade  for a 4-0 victory Thursday afternoon at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex Field 5.
 
The Sharks (1-2-1) recorded their first win of the season to hand the Silverswords (2-1) their first loss of the season.
 
HPU held Chaminade to a no-shot first half, and senior Teppai Negami of Tokyo, Japan/Tow Gakuen breaking the silence in the 15th minute with a picturesque give-and-go pass to junior teammate Garret Arzberger of Munich, Germany / Therese von Bayern who dished the ball right back for an easy shot by Negami who put it past Chaminade's keeper.
 
The Sharks didn't waste much time in the second half with senior Luiz Garcia of Campo Grande, Brazil/Colegio Salesiano Dom Bosco picking up his first goal of the season in the 57th minute yet again from Arzberger who advanced the ball allowing Garcia for a simple pop up into the netting.
 
Garcia found the back of the net again in the 71st minute with a header advance pass from senior Jair Espinoza of San Miguel Petapa, Guatemala/CSD Municipal to senior Christian Porras of Rockville, Md./Rockville in the deep left corner. Porras gave a gorgeous lob to Garcia who headed it through the right side for a 3-0 Shark lead.
 
Finally, in the 77th minute of play, Arzberger found one of his own with Garcia giving the lob from deep right to Negami who headed the ball over to Arzberger on the left side of the keeper's box for a laser beam into the right back pocket.
 
Junior goalkeeper Jeremy Zielinski of Sunnyvale, Calif./Homestead recorded his first win and shutout of the season facing five shots with three saves.

Chaminade saw 17 shots with goalkeeper Michael Stafford recording five saves.
 
The teams will meet again on Oct. 12 at St. Louis Field when Chaminade hosts the PacWest Conference contest.
 
The Sharks will be headed to the Big Island to faceoff against Hawai'i Hilo for the final non-conference game on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on the UHH campus.
