WAIMEA, Hawai'i – No. 8 Hawai'i Pacific University handed out the love on Valentine's Day with a 4-0 shutout of UC San Diego at the Fairmont Orchid Tennis Center.
The Sharks (1-2) picked up their first win of the season as the Tritons (0-3) fell for the third straight match.
The Sharks took two of the three doubles sets to claim the point for the twins, and posted three wins in singles for the 4-0 victory that halted the match in the round-robin, multi-team event.

Elodie Busson and
Heloise Le Normand won at No. 2 over Chole Wight and Sophie Pearson 6-2, while
Nicole Ballach and Sara Ikioka took No. 3 against Anu Bhadada and Julianna Sabile 6-2. The HPU team of
Marleen Tilgner and
Mihoki Miyahara at No. 1 doubles lost to Becky Chou and Rachel Wagner in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7-5).
The Sharks made quick work in getting the three singles points to end the match. Miyahara took Wagner 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 to start the win parade, while Ikioka downed Wight 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5. Tilgner ended the match with a win at No. 2 over Pearson 6-4, 6-2.
The match was called just before UCSD could score, at Bhadada held a lead over the Sharks Ballach 6-4, 5-2 at No. 6. HPU was near another score at No. 4 with Le Normand leading Valeria Corral 6-4, 4-0, while the No. 1 singles match between Busson and 37th ranked Chou split sets at 6-1, 5-7 and Chou up 4-3 in the third.
The Sharks continue the Presidents Day weekend event on Saturday. HPU meets Dallas Baptist at 8 a.m. at the Fairmont Orchid Tennis Center.
