KAMUELA, Hawai'i – No. 9 Hawai'i Pacific University took five of the six singles points to beat No. 10 Hawai'i Hilo 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Mauna Lani Sports & Fitness Center.
The Sharks (4-3) lost the doubles point to the Vulcans (0-2), but came back strong in singles play.
HPU won at No. 1 doubles as

The Sharks answered by dominating the singles.
Wang tied the match with a victory at No. 6 against Cincunegui 6-1, 6-1, before Ctverak put the Sharks up 2-1 with a win at No. 2 over En Wu 6-2, 6-3. Loccisano followed at No. 1 with a 6-4, 7-5 victory against Soukal that put HPU up 3-1.
The other three positions went to three sets. The Sharks wrapped up the win with Hornung at No. 3 taking a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win. The teams agreed to play out the match, with Arai winning at No. 4 over Checchia 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 before the Vulcans took the last point at No. 5 as Di Loreto downed Panik 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
The Sharks are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 26 when they take on Cameron (Okla.) in Oklahoma City prior to playing in the ITA Indoor Championships that start on Feb. 28.
