Fans Allowed To Return To HPU Athletic Events

HONOLULU – Spectators will once again be welcomed to Hawai'i Pacific University athletic events beginning with Saturday's women's and men's soccer games with Concordia Irvine at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

In accordance with the direction of the City and County of Honolulu approved by the state of Hawai'i, up to 1,000 spectators or 50 percent capacity (whichever is smaller) will be allowed at at outdoor seated venues such as WPSS.

Beginning October 20, indoor seated venues such as The Shark Tank will be limited to 50 percent capacity or a maximum of 500 spectators (whichever is smaller). However, due to the seating design of The Shark Tank, a limit of 200 spectators will be allowed. The attendance limits are subject to change. The first indoor event that will allow spectators will be the Nov. 4 volleyball game against Fresno Pacific.

There are additional restrictions as well, as spectators are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and must provide their vaccination card and identification prior to entering the venue. Children under the age of 12 who are not vaccinated will not be allowed to attend. Also, attendees must wear face masks at all times (except when sipping water) and be socially distanced within the facility.

Spectators may not consume food or beverage, except water, in the facility.

"HPU Athletics is so pleased that our state, county and city officials are now allowing spectators at sporting events," said HPU Executive Director of Athletics Dr. Debbie Snell. "We have been looking forward to this day for quite some time and we are eager to welcome our fans back to cheer on the Sharks! I also know our student-athletes are also anxious for their families and friends to be in attendance."

"Mahalo for helping us stay within the guidelines that allow spectators back to HPU Athletics events," she added.
