HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University took it on the chin Wednesday night, falling to No. 21 Chaminade in straight sets in PacWest Conference play at McCabe Gym.
The Sharks (4-15, 3-8) had their two game win streak snapped as the nationally-ranked Silverswords (19-4, 9-2) won 25-20, 25-12, 25-20.
HPU as a team hit .102 with 3.0 team blocks in the three-setter while the Swords posted a .304 attack percentage with 11.0 team blocks.
Senior
Lauren Christie of Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon, led the Sharks with nine kills, while sophomore
Ella Dotson of Tucson, Ariz./Marana added eight kills with two blocks.
The Swords were paced by Brooklen Pe'a and Marcelle Butler with 11 kills each, with Butler hitting .381 and Pe'a .308. Lataisa Saulala posted eight blocks with a .471 hitting percentage with five blocks.
The Sharks battled with leads in all three sets, but the No. 21 Swords made runs in each set to overtake HPU and hold on for the win.
The Sharks now prepare for the Southern California road swing that starts at Azusa Pacific on Monday. First serve is slated for 3 p.m. HST (6 p.m. PDT) at the Felix Event Center.
