Zielinski Leads Sharks On All-PacWest Conference Team

IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University senior goalkeeper Jeremy Zielinski headlines the Sharks named to the 2021 All-PacWest Conference Men's Soccer Team announced Wednesday by the conference office.

Zielinski, from Sunnyvale, Calif./Homestead, was honored as the PacWest Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and named First Team All-PacWest Conference. Graduate student midfielder Garrit Arzberger of Munich, Germany/Therese von Bayern was selected Second Team All-PacWest and sophomore defender Dennis Dinyer of Hamburg, Germany/Helene-Lange was chosen Third Team All-PacWest.

Zielinski helped lead the Sharks to their best season since 2015 with his excellent play in goal. Zielinski led the PacWest and ranked eighth nationally with eight shutouts, the sixth-best single season mark in PacWest history. He is 17th nationally in save percentage (.812) and 45th in total saves (65). He racked up a 1.07 Goals Against Average, the eighth-best season in PacWest history and ranks 59th nationally. He also ranks fifth in PacWest history with 13 career shutouts.

Arzberger, the Sharks captain, earned his fourth All-PacWest Conference honor including his All-PacWest Hawai'i pod pick last spring. He led the Sharks in goals scored (3), assists (3) and total points (9). His goals against Chaminade and Fresno Pacific were game winners giving him three career game-winning goals. He has collected 17 career goals with 46 career points.

Dinyer joined the team last season and has started all 20 games HPU has played in that time. He led the defense that allowed just 1.18 goals per game with eight shutouts on the year and helped break Azusa Pacific's 23-game PacWest winning streak with a 1-1 tie in October. Dinyer, who plays up on corner kicks and set pieces, scored his only goal of the year against Biola.

The Sharks finished the season in fourth place in the PacWest Conference, sporting an 8-6-2 overall record, 6-2-2 in PacWest play. It was the Sharks best season since finishing 10-6-1 overall and fifth in the league at 8-4-1 in 2015.

Joining Zielinski with PacWest Awards were Point Loma's Parker Scalzo as PacWest Player of the Year, Biola's Izaac Zausch of Defender of the Year, Biola's Theo LeCalve as Newcomer of the Year, and Biola's Adam Jones as Freshman of the Year. David Blomquist of PacWest Champion Azusa Pacific was voted the PacWest Coach of the Year.
