HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University's three-game winning streak came to an end on Thursday evening as No. 1 Lubbock Christian beat HPU 76-50 in the Malika Sports Tours Oahu Thanksgiving Classic.
The Sharks (3-2) hung with Division II's top ranked Chaparrals (6-0) early before LCU went on a 14-0 run in the first half to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Roman Young of Wichita, Kan./Sunrise Christian with 11 points. Junior
Trey Chapman of Healdsburg, Calif./Healdsburg just missed a double-double with eight points and a game-high nine rebounds, while senior
Rodney Hounshell of Richmond, Va./West Linn (Ore.) also tallied eight points.
LCU was paced by Lloyd Daniels who also just missed a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds to go with five assists. Parker Hicks collected 14 poijnts, with Aamer Muhammad adding 12 points. Rowan Mackenzie chipped in 11 points with seven assists.
HPU shot 38 percent from the floor (21-of-55), but only 19 percent (5-of-27) from the 3-point arc. The Sharks were 3-of-6 (50 percent) from the foul line. LCU converted 61 percent from the floor (30-of-49), including 11-of-20 (55 percent) from the arc. The Chaparrals made 5-of-10 attempts (50 percent) from the charity stripe. LCU edged HPU on the boards 30-28, and only turned the ball over 10 times to the Sharks 12.
The Sharks jumped out to an early lead on the top ranked team in D2, with a jumper from sophomore Jakob Kimira of Honolulu/Punahou and a layup from Chapman to claim a 4-0 lead in the first 65 seconds. But the Chaps followed with a 3-pointer from Hicks and the two teams swapped the lead a couple of before the game was tied at 8-8 with 16:21 to play in the first half on a Kimura fast break layup.
That's when LCU came back with a Mackenzie layup to retake the lead and start the 14-0 run that put the Chaps ahead 22-8 five minutes later. The Sharks never led again. HPU made a run late in the half, cutting the lead to six at 25-19 when junior
Colton Martin of Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound made a layup with 2:40 remain. However, LCU answered with a 5-0 run to take a 30-19 lead into halftime.
HPU got back within 10 twice during the second half, but a 9-0 run midway through the frame put No. 1 LCU up by 21 and the Chaps never let the Sharks get much closer on the way to the 76-50 final.
HPU won't get much down time before starting PacWest Conference play on Monday against Concordia Irvine. The men are scheduled to tip at 6:30 p.m., following the women's contest that begins at 4:30 at The Shark Tank.
