HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University dropped its first PacWest Conference game since 2019 as Point Loma never trailed in beating HPU 69-54 on Thursday night at The Shark Tank.
The Sharks (4-3, 1-1) saw a the Sea Lions (5-2, 1-0) open the game on a 12-0 and never look back.
Junior
Avery Cargill of Santa Rosa, Calif./Cardinal Newman led the Sharks with 16 points, while freshman
Makaela Zeldenryk of Warragul, Australia/St. Paul's added 12 points. Senior
Amy Baum of Melbourne, Australia/Rowville Secondary scored only three points, but grabbed 11 rebounds and dished seven assists.
PLNU got 16 points from Cara Liggins to go with 12 rebounds . Alix Henderson added 15 points, Ellie Turk 12 points and Annika Thayer 10 points.
The Sea Lions used the 15-0 run to open the contest to pull out to a 25-7 lead after the first quarter.
The Sharks came back in the second quarter to make it 38-23 at halftime.
PLNU pushed that lead to 59-37 lead after three, before HPU outscored the Sea Lions 17-10 in the final period 17-10 to make the final 69-54.
The Sharks are off until next Tuesday when they host Loyola Marymount at The Shark Tank. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
