KANEOHE, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University took it on the chin twice again in PacWest Conference play to cross-town rival Chaminade on Saturday, falling 4-3 in nine innings and 10-2 in five at
Howard Okita Field.
The Sharks (0-7, 0-7) remained winless on the season, while the Silverswords (6-4, 6-4) posted a four-game winning streak. Both contests were home games for the Swords.
Game one was the heartbreaker for the Sharks, as junior lefthander
Megan Wilson of Santa Clarita, Calif./West Ranch (0-3) took the loss allowing three runs, two earned, on nine hits with two strikeouts and three walks in a complete game outing.
Offensively, sophomore
Brandi Leong of Wahiawa, Hawai'i/Leilehua went 2-for-4 in the game with a double and RBI.
Chaminade's Maddie Stockslager allowed eight hits in nine innings with two runs and three walks with six strikeouts.
Game two saw the Sharks score twice in the top of the fourth to pull within a run of the Swords, only to have Chaminade plate seven runs in the bottom of the frame and hold on for the run-rule 10-2 win.
Junior righthander
Malia Torres of Danville, Calif./Monte Vista (0-4) suffered nine runs, seven earned on eight hits with four walks and no strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Freshman righty
Alexis Appleyard of Strathmore, Alberta, Canada/Holy Cross faced the last six batters allowing one run on a hit with a walk.
CUH's Taylor Genera (2-1) went all five innings allowing two runs on five hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
