Hawai'i Shuts Out Sharks 10-0

HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University had one of its best pitching performances of the series against the University of Hawai'i, but two bad half innings allowed UH to take a 10-0 win on Sunday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium to end the four-game series.

The Sharks (0-4) allowed a four-spot in the third inning and stayed with the Rainbow Warriors (5-2) until the eighth inning when an error opened the floodgates for a six run inning.

But the Sharks bats didn't come through on Sunday either, scattering six hits over nine innings as they were shutout for the first time since a 7-0 loss to Holy Names on April 27, 2019 – the last day of the 2019 season.

Starting freshman righthander Gavin Pringle of Duncan, B.C., Canada/Cowichan Secondary (0-1) went 3.1 innings, but an error and five hits in the third inning cost him four runs. He finished the outing allowing the four runs on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Freshman righthanded reliever Tyler DeYoung of Canyon Country, Calif./Canyon, hurled 2.2 innings of scoreless, hitless baseball, allowing a walk and notching four strikeouts. Senior righty Grant Dragmire went an inning and a third before suffering in the eighth and posting five runs on four hits with three walks. Sophomore righthander Stone Parker wrapped up the game going two-thirds of an inning allowing a run on two hits with a strikeout.

The Bows plated four runs in the bottom of the third thanks to a pair of RBI singles and a two RBI double for the 4-0 lead. Then in the eighth, a single, walk and throwing error set up a two-RBI double by Aaron Fogel and three more RBI singles to spell the difference in the game.

The Sharks are off until Saturday, March 20th, when they visit the Big Island to start PacWest Conference Hawai'i play against Hawai'i Hilo. The games will be at the baseball field on the UH Hilo campus.
