Sharks Drop 4-0 Exhibition With South Dakota State

WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – The Hawai'i Pacific University women's soccer team allowed four first half goals in falling to Division I South Dakota State 4-0 in an exhibition contest on Wednesday afternoon at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

The Sharks remain 1-0 as the contest against the Jackrabbits of the Division I Summit League did not count against their record. The Jacks improve to 5-0 as the game counted for SD State, winning their third straight at Waipio.

The Jacks didn't take long to light the scoreboard.

In the fourth minute, Cece Limongi took a feed from Avery Murdzek and blasted a shot into the net for an early 1-0 lead.

Murdzek added a goal in the 10th minute for a 2-0 advantage following a corner kick.

Ten minutes later, in the 20th minute, Abigail Kastens converted a Shark turnover deep in HPU's defensive end to the third goal of contest.

The final goal came just before halftime in the 43rd minute when Teani Arakawa slid a shot into the goal for the 4-0 score.

The second half saw only three shots by either team in a possession driven half.

HPU senior goalkeeper Marissa Froio of Semi Valley, Calif./Royal was pelted by 12 shots, five on goal, to record one save with the four goals.

SDSU senior goalkeeper Taylor Lock posted two saves, one in each half, against the three Shark shots.

HPU is back on the pitch at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium on Sunday evening as the Sharks host Westminster (Utah) of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
