HPU Falls Twice In Seattle

SEATTLE – The Hawai'i Pacific University volleyball team dropped its final two contests in straight sets at the Central Washington-Seattle Pacific Invitational with losses to Seattle Pacific University and Simon Fraser University Saturday at Brougham Pavilion.
 
The Sharks (1-7) fell to the Seattle Pacific Falcons (3-3) in the morning 25-21, 25-20, 25-19, then closed the classic with a close loss to Simon Fraser (7-1) 25-23, 25-13, 29-27 Saturday night.
 
The Sharks hit .129 in the opener against SPU with five service aces and 3.0 team blocks while the Falcons tallied a .286 with nine aces and 9.0 blocks. HPU and SPU had comparable total kills with 35 and 39 respectively.
 
Sophomore Ella Dotson of Tucson, Ariz./Marana led the Sharks with 11 kills and two blocks, and senior Nicole Ferris of Woodstock, Ga./Etowah was close behind with 9 total kills.
 
Seattle Pacific was well-rounded with kills coming from all players but Emily Tulino ended the match with six aces.
 
In the second match, the Sharks hit .080 overall with 29 kills compared to the Clan's .248 with 46 kills. SFU was dominant at the net with a total of 11.0 team blocks compared to HPU's 5.0.
 
The Sharks were paced again by Dotson with 10 kills and a .233 attack percentage, Ferris was good for another eight kills and freshman Claire Hindman of Mount Vernon, Wash./Sedro-Woolley hit 4-of-9 with a .333 attack.
 
The Clan had two standouts with Brooke Dexter tallying 14 kills and a .385 hitting percentage and Camryn Vosloh with 10 kills. Kaylyn Hartmann dominated the net with seven blocks.
 
HPU returns to Oahu to start their PacWest Conference play next Friday hosting a matchup with cross-town rival Chaminade. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at The Shark Tank.
