Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Baskeball Falls to Hilo, 97-79

HILO – The Hawaii Pacific University men's basketball team took on the University of Hawai'i Hilo for a PacWest conference matchup inside the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium Saturday night. HPU could not overcome their first half woes, falling 97-79 to UHH.

The Sharks (3-4, 0-3 PacWest) will compete in the Hoops in Hawai'i Holiday Classic starting next week, while the Vulcans (4-1, 3-0 PacWest) are hot to start conference play.

It was a tough start for the Sharks, as they fell behind 12-1 in the first six minutes of the game. Sophomore Marquis Moore began to bring it back, hitting two shots from beyond the arc, still, Hawaii Pacific were behind. Although there were a couple of small bursts from HPU, they trailed 54-32 going into halftime.

The Vulcans continued to maintain control of the game, trading any basket the Sharks scored, with their own. Hawaii Pacific was down 64-41 six minutes into the second half, but all of the sudden, they shifted their gears, exploding for a 12-0 run over the next three minutes. Unfortunately, their momentum was halted right there, as they could not get within double-digit points throughout the entire second half, falling 97-79 to Hawai'i Hilo.

Sophomore Mason Landdeck led the Sharks in scoring with a career-high 25 points, while Moore finished with 22 points.

Junior Tucker Pellicci brought in a team leading six rebounds, fellow junior Maj Dusanic had five.

The Sharks will come back to Honolulu to compete in the Hoops in Hawai'i Holiday Classic. Their first matchup is against Simon Fraser on Saturday, December 17, inside the Hawai'i Convention Center, with tip-off set for 3:30 p.m.
