HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University snapped its 16-game losing skid on Friday night with an 83-72 PacWest Conference triumph over cross-town rival Chaminade on the road at McCabe Gym.
The Sharks (4-17, 1-13) won their first PacWest game of the season, while handing the Silverswords (8-15, 6-11) their seventh straight loss.

Trey Chapman of Healdsburg, Calif./Healdsburg led the Sharks with 21 points and five rebounds, while junior
Colton Martin of Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound collected 13 points. Junior
Elijah Martinez of Denver, Colo./Regis Jesuit and sophomore
Tucker Pellicci of Portland, Ore./Franklin tallied 12 points each, and redshirt freshman
Jackson Young of Kerrville, Texas/Tivy chipped in 11.
Chaminade got a game-high 27 points from Isaac Amaral-Artharee, with Tredyn Christensen adding 12 points off the bench. Zach McIntire grabbed a game-high eight rebounds to lead the Swords.
HPU had its best shooting night since November, hitting 54 percent from the floor (31-of-57), including 9-of-20 (45 percent) from the 3-point arc. The Sharks made 12-of-14 free throws (86 percent). CUH connected on 41 percent from the field (29-of-70), but just 4-of-22 (18 percent) from behind the arc. The Swords converted 10-of-13 shots (77 percent) from the charity stripe. The Swords outrebounded the Sharks 38-32, while both teams had nine turnovers.
The teams had five ties and four lead changes during the contest. The teams traded the lead thrice in the first seven minutes until Martinez blasted a 3-pointer with 11 minutes remaining in the half to start a 9-2 run that put the Sharks up by seven. After allowing two Sword free throws, the Sharks got a layup, two free throws and a short jumper by Martin for his own 6-0 run that pushed the lead to 11. Chaminade trimmed that lead to three before Chapman got a layup in the final seconds of the half to take a 37-32 advantage into halftime.
In the second half, Chaminade went on a 6-0 run to grab a brief one-point 38-37 lead before Martin answered with a layup and Pellicci followed with a jumper in the lane and the Sharks never trailed again. HPU got the lead to nine on a Chapman jumper and eventually expanded the advantage to double digits and used a 9-3 run to get the lead to 15. The Sharks maintained the advantage for a final 11-point win 83-72.
HPU is back in action on Sunday evening when the Sharks host Fresno Pacific in a game rescheduled from Jan. 4. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m., following the women's game at 3 p.m, at The Shark Tank.
