IRVINE, Calif. – Junior
Tavia Rowell was named the PacWest Conference Newcomer of the Year as the 2022 All-PacWest Conference Women's Basketball Team was announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Rowell, a junior from Langley, B.C., Canada/Walnut Grove was also named Third Team All-PacWest Conference in leading the Sharks to a 9-18 season, 6-14 in conference play.
Rowell averaged 17.1 points a contest to lead the Sharks, rank fifth in the PacWest Conference and 65th in NCAA Division II in scoring. She led HPU with 6.0 rebounds a game (15th in the conference). Rowell ranked fifth in the PacWest and 118th in with a .456 field goal percentage, ranked sixth in the PacWest and 81st in Division II with a .356 3-point percentage, and seventh in the league (120th nationally) with 2.08 3-pointers a game.
Joining Rowell with conference special awards are Concordia Irvine's Michaela VanderKlugt as Player of the Year, Azusa Pacific's Laura Pranger as Defender of the Year, Biola's Amiah Simmons as Freshman of the Year, and Hawai'i Hilo's David Kaneshiro as Coach of the Year.
