LA JOLLA, Calif. – The sixth ranked Hawai'i Pacific University men made it six straight wins with a 5-0 victory over Holy Names on Friday morning at the UC San Diego Northview Courts.
The No. 6 Sharks (6-0) swept through the Hawks (1-3) on the way to the win.
HPU took the first two doubles positions to win the point as the No. 1 team of
Jordi Walder and
Jan Pleva easily took down R. Bhatia and Ellison Greco 6-2, followed by the No. 2's of
Jakub Beran and
Robin Sanz downing Mario Alviz and Ramiro Perez 6-4. The unfinished No. 3 duo of
Jan Heine and
Benjamin Loccisano was leading Hugo Nieto and Driss Elahcene 5-2 when pulled.
The Sharks flew through the singles completion. Pleva shutout Greco 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, with Heine ripping Alfonso De Simon 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5. The third and fourth position finished simultaneously as Beran beat Alviz 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 and Loccisano took out Perez 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4. Left unfinished were eighth ranked Walder at No. 1 with a 6-4, 4-1 lead on Bhatia, and
Ryohei Arai at No. 6 leading Nieto 6-3, 3-2 when the match was won.
The Sharks move from the San Diego area up to the Orange County area for their next four matches on this southern California swing. HPU takes on No. 7 Washburn on Sunday at Azusa Pacific's Munson & Bavougian Tennis Complex in Azusa, Calif. Match time is slated for 7 a.m. HST (10 a.m. PDT).
