AZUSA, Calif. – The No. 6 Hawai'i Pacific University men won their seventh straight on Sunday afternoon with a 4-2 victory over No. 7 Washburn (Kan.) at Azusa Pacific's Munson & Bavougian Tennis Complex.
 
The sixth ranked Sharks (7-0) did the trick after losing the doubles point to the seventh ranked Icabods (10-2) and snapping Washburn's eight-match winning streak.
 
Washburn took the doubles point by winning at No. 3 with Rendon Santiago and Miquel Perez downing 
Jan Heine and 
Benjamin Loccisano 6-2, and following with a win at No. 1 with the 34th ranked duo of Sebastian Pjontek and Matthew Earle beating 
Jan Pleva and 
Jordi Walder 6-4. HPU was leading at No. 2 with 
Jakub Beran and 
Robin Sanz up 5-2 over Raul-Alin Dicu and Noah Neideck when the point was won.
 
HPU fired back in singles, starting at No. 3 where 60th ranked Sanz surprised 25th ranked Tim Hammes 6-2, 6-3. WU answered at No. 2 with Perez beating Pleva 6-4, 6-2, but the Sharks tied it at 2-2 when eighth ranked Walder claimed No. 1 by beating Dicu 6-2, 6-1. HPU went up 3-2 as Beran chalked up No. 4 over Pjontek 6-2, 6-3, and won the match at No. 5 as Loccisano took down Daniel Bird 6-2, 6-4. The No. 6 position was just starting a third set as Heine and Rendon split 6-3, 2-6, and Rendon had a 1-0 lead in the third when the match went final.
 
The Sharks continue their southern California road trip with a key regional matchup when they head to the Biola Tennis Center to meet 37th ranked Biola in a match at Noon HST (3 p.m. PDT).
