SAN DIEGO – Hawai'i Pacific University got a combined 3-hitter on the mound and a big blast at the plate to take game two and split a doubleheader with No. 4 Point Loma 2-0 after falling 11-0 in the opener on Monday afternoon at Carroll B. Land Stadium.
The Sharks (12-11, 6-6) got one of two in their first games away from home in 2022. The fourth-ranked Sea Lions (18-2, 4-2) had their eight-game winning streak snapped with the Sharks win.
The big blast came off the bat of senior
Braxton Wehrle of Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman who belted his first home run of the season, sending a 3-2 second-inning pitch over the right field wall. He later smacked an RBI single to left that scored freshman T.J. Smith of Sacramento, Calif./Laguna Creek in the eighth. Wehrle went 3-for-4 at the plate in the second game. Smith was 2-for-5 in game two and 3-for-9 on the day.
Sophomore
Max Beaulieu of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga (2-1) got his second win of the year hurling six innings of shutout ball, allowing just two hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Sophomore Eddie Lee of Honolulu/Kalani recorded his first save of the season with three shutout innings, allowing just one hit with one walk.
Dylan Miller (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season for PLNU, allowing the home run as one of five hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Game one was all Point Loma. After going scoreless in the first two innings, the Sea Lions exploded for eight runs in the third, with two more in the fourth and one in the fifth on the way to an 11-0 triumph.
The Sharks scattered six hits in the game without plating a run.
Sea Lion starter Baxter Halligan (5-1) allowed five hits in his scoreless six innings with four strikeouts, while Connor Hill got his first save allowing just one hit with two Ks.

Blake Harrison of Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley (1-2) was tagged with the loss, allowing eight runs on five hits with a strikeout in 2.2 innings pitched. Reliever
Zack McHone of Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty Hills went 4.1 innings with three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.
Diego Harris of Los Angeles/Crespi finished up with a perfect inning with one strikeout.
HPU finishes the series with Point Loma on Tuesday with a twinbill at Carrol Land Stadium. First pitch is set for 9 a.m. HST (Noon PDT).
