KAILUA, Hawai'i – No. 3 Hawai'i Pacific University needed less than 90 minutes to roll to a 7-0 victory over cross-town rival Chaminade on Monday afternoon at the Kailua Racquet Club.
The third ranked Sharks (11-5) dominated the Silverswords (0-7) in the island contest, dropping a total of six games in the entire match.
HPU quickly picked up the doubles point in the contest, with the No. 3 team of
Olivia Kjaer and
Rikona Murakami blanking Skye Haraga and Marisa Luna 6-0, with the pair of
Valentina Mokrova and
Marta Ruszczynska taking No. 2 over Sydney Danielson and Kylie Ye 6-0. The unfinished position at No. 1 had
Shaline Pipa and
Elodie Busson tied with Kayleen Lau and Salamsina Te'i Robertson 3-3 when the match was pulled.
HPU then rolled in the singles, with four of the positions won without dropping a game.
At the No. 6 spot, Kjaer beat Haraga 6-0, 6-0, followed by Murakami at No. 5 over Luna 6-0, 6-0, and seventh ranked Pipa took No. 1 against Lau 6-0, 6-0 to clinch the team victory. Ruszczynska then turned in the 6-0, 6-0 against Danielson at No. 4. No. 34 Busson took the No. 2 singles spot over Te'i Robertson 6-1, 6-0 and Mokrova wrapped up the day at No. 3 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ye.
The third ranked Sharks are in action again on Sunday afternoon when they visit the Big Island to take on Hawai'i Hilo. The match against the Vulcans starts at Noon at the UH Hilo Tennis Courts.
