TURLOCK, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University closed the 2022 Turlock Tournament of Champions with a 1-0 loss to Cal State San Bernadino on Sunday morning at Pedretti Park.
The Sharks (15-25) closed a stretch of 17 games in 14 days in California with the loss, while the Coyotes (13-23) picked up their third win in the five game tournament.
The Sharks could not get the bats working against the Yotes, as CSUSB pitcher Brooklyn Blackmon one-hit HPU while striking out five.
Sophomore
Hoku Ching of Honolulu/Roosevelt collected the Sharks only hit, a two-out ground rule double in the first inning. She was the only baserunner HPU had on the day.
Senior
Malia Torres of Danville, Calif./Monte Vista (7-12) suffered the hard-luck loss, allowing the one run on eight hits with no walks and four strikeouts in collecting her 18th complete game of the season.
HPU kept CSUSB off the scoreboard until the sixth inning. The Yotes got a leadoff single by Tereise Tosi, who was lifted for pinch runner Hayden Greene. Greene stole second and scored on a two-out RBI single from Alyssa Beck for the game's only run.
The Sharks return home for a week off until hosting cross-town rival Chaminade in a PacWest Conference doubleheader next Sunday at Howard Okita Field. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
