Women's Volleyball Drop First Roadtrip Match 3-0 to Point Loma

POINT LOMA, Calif. - The Hawaii Pacific University women's volleyball team could not find the edge needed, losing 3-0 to Point Loma on Monday afternoon at Golden Gymnasium.

The Sharks (0-11,0-5) have yet to find the closing power this season, as the Sea Lions (10-3, 5-0) advanced their win streak to six.

In a first set battle, both HPU and PLNU had their offenses flowing. With the score tied at 14-14 the Sea Lions found the extra boost they needed to take the first set 25-20.

The Sharks tried to flip the script in the second set as they were up by four midway through. Point Loma stayed resilient and hung in there as they chipped away at the lead and took over at 21-20 and held off HPU down the stretch to win the second set 25-23.

Hawaii looking to avoid the sweep got down early and were unable to find their footing as they dropped the final set 25-16.

Senior middle Demi Winters and freshman middle Marley Sandoval continue to be the leading front of the offense as they both recorded seven kills in the match. Sophomore setter Pua Beazley led the team's setting duo with 13 assists.

The Sharks continue their roadtrip next at Azusa Pacific on Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m. HT.
