NAMPA, ID. – The Hawai'i Pacific University women's soccer team was bested 5-2 against Westminster on Thursday afternoon at NNU Soccer Field.
HPU (0-3-1) could not overcome the early deficit from the Griffins (2-1-2), but found success on the offensive end with a pair of goals.
WCU jumped to an early 2-0 lead against the Sharks and scored both goals in the first 23 minutes. After starting down 2-0, freshman forward
Justice Valdez stole the ball from a defender just outside the 18-yard mark, and lobbed one past the goalkeeper to cut the lead 2-1 before halftime.
However, in the second half, WCU struck quickly with three goals in the first ten minutes, lengthening their lead 5-1. In the 74th minute, junior forward
Caylie Uyema netted the match's final goal as the Sharks fell 5-2.

Madi DePhillips started in goal today and managed two saves in her outing. Uyema finished the week as the team's top scorer with two goals.
The Sharks return to action on the road when they take on UH Hilo on Sept. 17. Kick off slated for 12:30 p.m. HT.
