HPU Shows Out In Honolulu Derby

Four different Sharks score in the 4-0 win.

WAIPI'O, Hawai'i. - On Wednesday afternoon, the HPU men's soccer team faced off against the Chaminade Silverswords in an a highly anticipated matchup that drew a crowd of over 400 fans ready to watch the Honolulu Derby. The Sharks who are the reigning PacWest Team of the Week, looked to build their win streak to three.

In the first half, Jonathan Sorto got the party started with a kick well outside the box which soared passed the right of the Chaminade keeper to put HPU up 1-0. Both teams were able to keep each other a bay the rest of the way, but it was clear that the Sharks would need some insurance to secure the win.

When the whistle blew for the start of the second half, Hawai'i Pacific proceeded to put on a scoring masterclass for the fans in attendance. Not settled with the one-goal lead, the Sharks kept their feet on the gas pedal as Jude Boyd, Leandro Weingartner, and Sebastian Mejia scored to establish a staggering 4-0 lead over the Silverswords. It was a family affair for HPU as 23 different Sharks played in this stellar contest.

Connor Margo picked up another clean sheet as he led a back line that allowed only one shot on-goal as HPU defended their home field.

The Sharks will be back in action Wednesday, Oct. 18th, as they face off against Point Loma.
