KAILUA - The number four ranked Hawaii Pacific University women's tennis team dominated their first conference matchup of the year 7-0 against Holy Names, Thursday afternoon at Kailua Racquet Club.
The Sharks (1-2) bounced back after two loses against Division I opponents to get back on track with their season. Holy Names (0-1) played their first match of the season after having two matches postponed already.
Doubles Competition
Sharks duos were eating up the competition with a speedy 25 minutes 6-1 win for
Nicole Ballach and
Rikona Murakami over Lucy Rekasch and Deepalashmi Varnaraja. Only a couple minutes behind them
Elodie Busson and Abagail Wild def. Carlotta Romita and Ella Lavender 6-2 to clinch the doubles point. Team
Marleen Tilgner and
Shaline Pipa were up 5-2 before their match was rendered incomplete because of the clinch.
Singles Competition
Pipa instilled why she is the number one for HPU as she defeated Linda Dimitroff 6-0, 6-1.
Lynn Kader made her debut as a Shark in the No. 6, where she took down Lucy Rekasch 6-4, 6-1. Holy Names Ana Rios got close to taking a set off of the Sharks, but Murakami dug deep to grind out the 6-0, 7-5 final win of the day.
The Sharks continue their long weekend with UH Hilo tomorrow at 10 a.m. HT.
