Women's Tennis Sweeps MSU Denver in First Round of PacWest Tournament

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The Hawaii Pacific women's tennis team kicked off their quest for a PacWest Championship title with a 4-0 win over MSU Denver on Thursday morning at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex.
 
After a battle on the doubles courts, HPU blew through the competition in the singles to pick up their first win of the tournament.
 
Doubles Competition
Shaline Pipa and Marleen Tilgner were locked in a battle on court one, but a late break point gave them the edge they needed to push past Kinsey Fields and Isabel Heras for a 7-5 victory on court one. On court three Mihoki Miyahara and Nicole Ballach led late in the set before they faultered three games to Lily Stienemeier and Kayla Myburgh to lose 7-5. With it coming down to a tiebreaker on court two. First Team All-PacWest duo Elodie Busson and Abigail Wild got ahead early and never looked back as they took the 7-6 (7-3) tiebreaker win to clinch the doubles point for the Sharks.
 
Singles Competition
The singles matches ended swiftly with Tilgner completing the first win of the duals 6-1, 6-0 in just 47 minutes. Not too far behind her were Abigail Wild and Pipa Shaline who took wins in straight sets to complete the 4-0 clinch over MSU Denver in the first round.
