Hauck Throws 142 Pitches in 5-1 Complete Game Win Over UH Hilo

WAIPAHU - A one-run complete game outing led the Sharks to a 5-1 victory over UH Hilo on Friday night at Central Oahu Regional Park.

The Sharks (18-26, 13-17 PacWest) early run support set up Andrew Hauck for the start of his career against the Vulcans (24-17, 14-14 PacWest).

After going one, two, three in the top of the first HPU got the bats going early after capitalizing on an error from the shortstop. Three singles in a row from D.J. Stephen, Ian Wolski and Noah Hata scored the first three runs.

The Vulcans started off the fifth with a double down the left field line setting up their first run for the game. A wild pitch in the next at-bat moved the runner to third and a ground ball to the right side scored the run as HPU led 3-1 headed to the bottom half.

The Sharks got the run back with Tejean Smith getting on base with a single. A wild pitch moved him up into scoring position for Kota Suzuki who found the hole on the left side bringing home the run and extending the lead back to three.

Cole Kashimoto led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to left field. Smith took offense to a ball left over the plate and crushed it off the left-center wall and scored Kashimoto from first, but that was it for HPU as they led 5-1 headed to the eighth.

Andrew Hauck in his last appearance was a bulldog throwing a complete game 9.0 innings with 142 pitches. He only allowed one run on five hits and tied his season-high nine strikeouts.

Four batters had multi-hit games with five different players claiming and RBI. Doug Zolezzi earned his first hit in his first start of the season at third base.
