(HONOLULU, HI) - The Hawaii Pacific University men's basketball team has now officially wrapped up the regular season and are heading to San Diego this week for the PacWest Conference Tournament. The Sharks (18-10, 13-7 PacWest) finished the year as the #3 seed in the PacWest and will take on the #6 seed Azusa Pacific University (11-16, 10-10 PacWest).
To close the year, the Sharks hosted the rival Chaminade Silverswords on HPU's Senior Night. The Sharks celebrated senior
Tyrease Terrell as the lone senior. With 550 in attendance, HPU was able to pull away in the second half to take a 77-72 win. The Sharks were led by
Maj Dusanic, who was 9-10 from the field. He finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Diggy Winbush added 17 points and 7 assists, while
Melo Sanchez chipped in 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. The Sharks scored 40 of their 77 points in the paint. Their PacWest leading defense struggled to start the game but ended up holding the Silverswords to just 35% field goal percentage.Â
In the final game of the regular season, the Sharks visited the Hawaii Hilo Vulcans. This game was dominated by the Vulcans defense. HPU struggled to score, finishing the game with a 52-70 loss. The Sharks shot just 35% from the field and 27% from the three-point line. Diggy Winbush continued his streak of solid play, ending the night with 16 points and 5 assists.
Charlie Weber pitched in 15 points and 6 rebounds.Â
HPU now sets their sights on the PacWest Conference Tournament. The #3 seed Sharks take on #6 Azusa Pacific this Thursday at 12:30PM PST.Â
