Waipo, HI – Hawai'i Pacific University men's soccer team earned their first win of the season, defeating Chaminade 2-1 at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Goals by Dylan Barreria and Ethan Farrar powered the Sharks past their in-state rivals.
HPU (1-5-0) got on the board in the 36th minute, when Dylan Barreria calmly converted a penalty kick after Chaminade's defense conceded a foul inside the box. The Sharks carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, HPU doubled their advantage in the 73rd minute. Philip Stavnem sent a precise pass to Ethan Farrar, who slotted the ball home for his first goal of the season, putting the Sharks up 2-0.
Chaminade (0-3-0) fought back late, narrowing the gap in the 88th minute with a goal from Ian Garcia, assisted by Owen Malone. Despite the late push, HPU held firm to secure the win.
