HPU Men's Soccer Dominates Lewis & Clark in Season Opener

Waipahu, HI – The Hawaii Pacific University men's soccer team kicked off their 2024 season with a commanding 3-0 victory over Lewis and Clark at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium on September 1. A second-half surge saw the Sharks break open a tight contest, showcasing their offensive prowess and defensive solidity to secure the win.

The first half was a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to create clear scoring opportunities. However, the Sharks found their rhythm in the second half, breaking the deadlock in the 67th minute. Shota Fukunishi opened the scoring with a clinical finish, assisted by Sam Irsfeld, setting the tone for HPU's dominant display.

Just seconds later, HPU doubled their lead when Jude Boyd capitalized on the momentum to score another quick goal, leaving Lewis and Clark defense scrambling. The Sharks continued to apply pressure, and in the 77th minute, Tyson Norr sealed the victory with a well-placed shot, assisted by Fukunishi, who had an outstanding performance.

HPU's defense was equally impressive, completely shutting down Lewis and Clark's attack. The Sharks did not allow a single shot on goal, with their backline and midfield controlling the game and keeping their opponents at bay.

Despite a few cautions issued late in the first half, including a yellow card for HPU's Cade Anderson, the Sharks maintained their composure and discipline, controlling the match from start to finish.
