HONOLULU - Hawai'i Pacific rode a dominant first half and a surge of timely second-chance scoring to defeat Saint Martin's 88–75 on Tuesday night at the Shark Tank. The Sharks improve to 2–1 on the season after putting four different players above double figures and controlling the game for nearly 30 minutes.
HPU's offense clicked early, dropping 53 first-half points while shooting over 51% from the field.
Quentin Meza powered the early burst with 13 first-half points, including a trio of threes, and helped the Sharks build an 11-point halftime lead.
Avi Halpert added an efficient spark off the bench, knocking down all five of his first-half attempts plus two free throws and giving HPU valuable scoring depth.
Joshua West delivered a complete performance with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals, repeatedly coming through with momentum-swinging plays on both ends.
Maj Dusanic anchored the paint with 13 points and 6 rebounds, while
Quinton McCullough stuffed the stat sheet with six points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks.
HPU's depth proved a major separator as the Sharks' bench outscored Saint Martin's 28–12. The Sharks dominated the glass 42–33, including 17 second-chance points that helped them build a lead as large as 21 in the second half.
Although Saint Martin's attempted to rally behind Dae'Kwon Watson's 23 points, HPU's defense tightened when it mattered—holding the Saints to just 38.7% shooting after halftime and turning 15 turnovers into consistent scoring opportunities.
With efficient shooting (45.5% FG, 35.7% 3FG), a strong rebounding edge, and balanced contributions across the roster, the Sharks controlled the pace and sealed a convincing home victory.
The Sharks return to the court this Friday at approximately 7 p.m. to take on Western Washington, after the women finish against UC Merced.
