Azusa, CA - Hawaii Pacific faced off with Azusa Pacific in a double header
February 21st. The Sharks dropped game 1 13-6 and were down 4-0 in game 2 heading into the 9th inning where the offense finally got to Azusa starter
Gavino Rosales and put up 6 runs en route to a 6-5 victory.
In game 1 HPU struggled to contain the top of the APU lineup as lead off hitter
Mikey Easter went 4-4. The Sharks were able to put together a big 5th inning thanks to a
Skyler Agnew grandslam, but struggled to push runs across as Azusa was able to put the game out of reach.
The Sharks struggled to get the offense going in game 2 as well but proved once again that with their offense, they can never be counted out of a game. In the top of the 7th they were able to put together a string of competitive at bats including a tough at bat by
Jordan Otjen in his first at bat of the season. They tied it up on
Kan Taguchi's 2 run double and took the lead on captain
Daniel Johnson's bases loaded walk. They were able to push across 1 more on a wild pitch which was the deciding factor as closer
Ryan Inouye came in and shut the door to secure the win for the Sharks. Senior
Steven Escarcega was credited with the win.
The Sharks will look to take the series Saturday,
February 22nd.
