Sharks Take Series From Chaminade To Cap Off Strong Regular Season

Honolulu, HI - After a wild series that took place over the course of a week, the HPU Sharks won 3 out of 4 from Chaminade in their final series of the regular season. It has been a historic year for the Sharks offensively as they look to continue it into the postseason and bring home a PacWest championship.

Game 1

The Sharks jumped out to a hot start, taking the lead in the first inning and remaining in the lead the rest of the game. The Sharks put up 5 runs in the first 2 innings to make it 5-0 and give a nice cushion for Jayden Gabrillo who was lights out, going 6 innings giving up 3 runs and striking out 6. Jacob Vanek came in to finish the game, pitching 3 innings of no run ball. Skyler Agnew went 3-5 with yet another triple, while Frankie Peralez went 3-5 and made some stellar plays on defense.

Game 2

The second matchup started with a Bronson Rivera 2 run shot in the first, and the Sharks didn't look back from there. Chaminade hung in there, scoring 2 runs in the bottom half of the first but the Sharks pulled away, scoring 11 runs in the game, capped off by a Noah Blythe 2 run blast to shut the door in the Sharks 11-4 victory.

Game 3

In a wild game 3, the Sharks held onto a 5-2 lead going into the last inning. Chaminade was able to tie things up to send the game into extra innings. A downpour in the top of the 10th suspended the game with runners on first and second with Noah Blythe at the plate with a 1-1 count. The game was resumed almost a week later and the Sharks lost on a walkoff in the bottom of the 12th.

Game 4

The Sharks were able to bounce back in game 4. Their offense regained consistency, scoring in all but 2 innings. Jayden Gabrillo took the mound again and gave 4 quality innings for the Sharks while a combination of Makana Quia and Conor Hourigan shut down the Silverswords en route to the Sharks' 8-3 victory for their 30th win of the season.

The Sharks will head to Fresno for the PacWest tournament as the 3 seed, where they will take on 2nd seeded Point Loma on Wednesday. After making the tournament last year, the Sharks have many returners with postseason experience and are no stranger to the moment this year. It was a historic regular season for the Sharks as they shattered individual and team records all year long. They managed to more than double the previous single season home run record. They finished 30-20 for the second consecutive year, while maintaining a 28-16 record in conference. Throughout the year, the Sharks only lost 1 conference series. Tune in Wednesday to watch the HPU Sharks make a run at the PacWest title!
