SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific men's soccer opened its 2025 campaign with a strong showing at Westmont College, earning a 1-1 draw against Simon Fraser before securing a 2-0 shutout win over Saint Martin's. The results give the Sharks an early unbeaten record and momentum heading into the next stretch of nonconference play.

Key Performances

  • Pedro Ashley netted the first goal of the season against Simon Fraser, assisted by Olle Ridelius.

  • Jackson Palladino opened the scoring against Saint Martin's in the seventh minute with his first collegiate goal.

  • Dylan Barreira converted a penalty kick later in the first half against Saint Martin's to double the Sharks' advantage.

  • HPU's back line and goalkeepers combined for 11 saves across both matches, limiting quality chances and preserving the shutout in game two.

Game Highlights

Against Simon Fraser, the Sharks struck first when Ashley finished off a setup from Ridelius in the 19th minute. HPU generated 19 shots in the match, forcing seven saves, but Simon Fraser found the equalizer in the 79th minute to secure the draw.

Two days later, HPU wasted little time asserting itself against Saint Martin's. Palladino's early strike put the Sharks in front, and Barreira calmly buried a penalty kick just 10 minutes later. From there, the defense locked in, holding the Saints to just three shots on goal. The Sharks finished with 15 total attempts and earned their first win of the season with the 2-0 result.

With a draw and a victory, Hawai'i Pacific moves to 1-0-1 overall, showing early efficiency on offense and resilience on defense. The Sharks return home from Santa Barbara with confidence and momentum as they continue their nonconference slate. There next game will be on September 13th as they take on Cal Poly Humbolt at Waipio Stadium
