KAILUA, Hawai'i — The Hawai'i Pacific University women's tennis team delivered a strong all-around performance Friday, defeating Biola University 6–1 at Kailua Racquet Club.
The Sharks (2–2) controlled the match from the outset, securing the doubles point and winning five of six singles contests to earn the decisive victory.
In doubles play,
Kayleigh Castillo and
Kaia Sperry opened the day with a victory at No. 3 after their opponents retired; however, the pairing of
Annika Hakovirta and
Evi Roobol set the tone with a dominant 6–0 win at No. 1, giving HPU early momentum.
Hawai'i Pacific carried that energy into singles competition, highlighted by
Tereza Noah's commanding 6–2, 6–0 win at No. 2 and
Rosa Viller Moeller's 6–3, 6–1 triumph at No. 5. Hakovirta followed with a clutch 6–4, 7–6 (7–5) victory at No. 4.
At the top of the lineup,
Evi Roobol battled to a three-set win, defeating Kailee Mazzeo 6–1, 4–6, 6–4 to secure another point for the Sharks.
Willow Dymkowski added a gritty three-set tiebreak victory at No. 6, prevailing 7–5, 5–7, 1–0 (10–7).
Biola's lone point came at No. 3 singles, where Dafne Andres overcame
Kayleigh Castillo in three sets.
The Sharks will return to the courts on Monday against fellow PacWest member Dominican at 11:00 a.m. at Kailua Racquet Club.
