KONA, Hawai'i — Hawai'i Pacific delivered a strong all-around performance Saturday morning, defeating Azusa Pacific 5-2 in a PacWest women's tennis matchup in Kona.
The Sharks (4-2) set the tone early by claiming the doubles point, winning two of three matches. The pairs of
Annika Hakovirta and
Evi Roobol at No. 1 doubles and
Tereza Noah and
Willow Dymkowski at No. 2 doubles each earned decisive 6-4 and 6-3 victories, respectively, to give HPU the early edge.
HPU carried that momentum into singles play, securing four wins to seal the team victory. Roobol battled to a three-set win at No. 1 singles, outlasting Stina Larsson 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. Noah was dominant at No. 2 singles, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 victory to extend the Sharks' lead.
Rosa Viller Moeller added another point at No. 5 singles with a convincing 6-1, 6-4 win, while Dymkowski clinched the match for HPU at No. 6 singles, rallying for a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 triumph.
Azusa Pacific picked up points at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, but the Sharks' depth and strong start proved decisive.
With the win, Hawai'i Pacific builds momentum early in the season and continues to show balance across its lineup, highlighted by key contributions in both doubles and singles play.
The Sharks will hit the courts on the Big Island again tomorrow as they take on the University of Hawai'i at Hilo at 10:00 a.m.
