HAYWARD, Calif. – The Hawai'i Pacific University men's basketball team held a halftime lead but could not slow a second-half surge by Saint Martin's, falling 75-68 on Friday afternoon at Pioneer Gym.
HPU controlled the opening half behind balanced scoring and strong work on the glass, taking a 36-25 lead into the break after holding the Saints to just 29.6 percent shooting. The Sharks extended their advantage to double digits during the first half while limiting Saint Martin's opportunities from the field.
Saint Martin's responded after halftime, shooting 50 percent from the floor in the second half while outscoring HPU 50-32 over the final 20 minutes. The Saints also connected on seven three-pointers in the second half to swing momentum and erase the deficit.
Joshua West led the Sharks with 16 points and nine rebounds while playing 35 minutes. Quentin Meza added 15 points and knocked down two three-pointers, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Josh Niusulu finished with 11 points and three rebounds, while Quinton McCullough contributed nine points, six rebounds, and three assists.
Maj Dusanic anchored the boards for HPU with a game-high 12 rebounds to help the Sharks finish with a 43-40 advantage on the glass.
The contest featured seven lead changes and four ties, but Saint Martin's capitalized on turnovers and bench production in the second half. The Saints scored 20 points off turnovers and received 27 points from their bench.
HPU finished the game shooting 37.7 percent from the field and 22.2 percent from three-point range while making 16 of 23 free throws.
Saint Martin's was led by Diego Trejo-Delgado with 19 points, while Dae'Kwon Watson added 18 points behind five three-pointers. Patrick Kilfoil chipped in 12 points and six assists for the Saints.
Hawai'i Pacific concludes the season with an 18-12 overall record, while Saint Martin's improves to 26-5.
