SAN ANTONIO, Texas — No. 11 Hawai'i Pacific secured a strong road victory Thursday afternoon, defeating St. Mary's (TX) 5–2 at Rohrbach Tennis Stadium.
The Sharks improved to 7-2 overall after capturing the doubles point and winning four of six singles matches against the Rattlers.
HPU opened the match with a strong showing in doubles play. Willow Dymkowski and Tereza Noah set the tone with a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Annika Hakovirta and Evi Roobol followed with a 7-5 win at No. 1 to clinch the doubles point for the Sharks. St. Mary's picked up the final doubles match at No. 3.
In singles action, Hawai'i Pacific quickly extended the lead. Hakovirta earned a straight-sets win at No. 4 singles, defeating Isabella Olsson 6-2, 6-2 to give the Sharks their second point.
Kaia Sperry followed with a strong performance at No. 6 singles, edging Sarah Wooten in a tight match 7-6, 6-4.
Roobol secured another point at the top of the lineup, battling to a three-set victory over Alessia Terlizzi 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
St. Mary's claimed points at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, but Noah sealed the team victory for HPU at No. 2 singles, outlasting Selina Wu in a three-set battle, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.
With the win, Hawai'i Pacific continued its strong start to the season while earning an impressive road victory over St. Mary's.
