HPU Men’s Tennis Edges Hawai‘i Hilo, 4-3

KAILUA, Hawai'i – The No. 45 Hawai'i Pacific men's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Hawai'i Hilo on Monday at Kailua Racquet Club, using a strong start in doubles and clutch performances in singles to secure the win.

The Sharks took early control by claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Yannick Heitzeberg and Seth Newman led the way with a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Mile Matic and Ethan Terry matched that score with a 6-2 win on court two. Hawai'i Hilo picked up the win on court three, but HPU carried a 1-0 lead into singles play.

Singles competition proved tightly contested, with both teams trading momentum throughout the lineup. Hawai'i Hilo earned straight-set wins on courts one and six, and also picked up a three-set victory on court two to even the match.

HPU responded with key performances in the middle of the lineup. Ethan Terry delivered a crucial comeback win on court three, bouncing back after dropping the first set to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Seth Newman followed with a composed straight-set victory on court four, 6-4, 6-3, to keep the Sharks in position.

The deciding point came on court five, where Arthur Pery secured the match for HPU with a 6-4, 7-6 victory, winning a tight second-set tiebreak to clinch the team result.

With the doubles point proving decisive, Hawai'i Pacific was able to hold off Hawai'i Hilo in a closely contested match from start to finish.

Hawai'i Pacific continues its season as the Sharks look to build on the momentum from the 4-3 win.
